Unfortunately, not much is known about the composer of  ‘The wheels on the bus go round and round’, a young lady at the time who went by the name ‘Verna Hills. Verna was born in 1898 in Boston, Massacutteses. The first publication was in an American magazine, coincidently called ‘American Childhood’ where the song was originally referred to as ‘Bus’.

The music became very popular and was used as a song to entertain children on school bus rides on the way to school and school outings. The song quickly spread across the USA, Canada, Italy, Sweden, Demark and many other English people and European speaking countries.

Many music historians and academics have drawn similarities between the songs ‘It is based on the traditional British song “Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush“.

Unfortunately, Verna Hil died in 1990, 39 years after the death of her husband, Herbert S. Bayley and are buried tother in the city they loved so dearly, Boston.
