Edinburgh Singing Lessons

Our highly qualified, specialist singing teachers help you reach your vocal goals through a series of exercises, warm-ups and techniques that make a genuine difference, all while keeping things enjoyable by working around the artists and styles you love.

Vocal coaching isn't just about singing; it's about learning to sing and speak in a healthy, efficient way, avoiding strain and getting the most from your voice. Whether you're preparing for a performance or simply want to sing with more confidence, our approach leaves your voice stronger and more sustainable.

The human voice has been trained formally since the bel canto tradition emerged in seventeenth-century Italy, and the same core principles, breath support, posture and resonance, still underpin vocal coaching today, whatever style draws you: musical theatre, pop, jazz, opera or contemporary folk. Singing is also one of the few hobbies backed by genuine wellbeing research, with controlled breathing and regular practice widely associated with reduced stress and improved lung capacity.

It's never too late to start. A good number of our singing pupils are adults in their 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond: some returning to a childhood hobby, others finally giving themselves permission to try. Retirees in particular often find singing lessons a wonderful way to build confidence, meet like-minded people and keep the mind and voice active.

Whether you dream of fronting a band, preparing for an audition, or simply singing more freely around the house, our Edinburgh vocal coaches teach every style, from musical theatre, pop and rock to jazz, classical and contemporary folk. Lessons are available in person at our Morningside studio or online, and we can prepare you for graded singing exams or a specific upcoming performance whenever you're ready.

I've been taking singing lessons from Liga for the past 10 months and she has been a fantastic teacher. She is very supportive and truly takes the time and effort to understand your voice, and thus tailor her teaching to what is most suitable for the individual. She evidently has a wealth of singing and music knowledge to draw from, and puts this into great practical application during lessons. She is very patient and positive which makes for a good environment in which to learn these new skills. Would highly recommend.

Singing lesson FAQs

Is it OK if I haven't sung before?

Of course. We make sure the practical and theoretical essentials are covered to protect your voice and get the best results. Our vocal teachers work across musical theatre, pop, jazz and opera, or whatever style you love best.

Will I get to record my singing?

Definitely. We actively encourage all students to record their progress: a great way to build confidence, track improvement and hear exactly where you're getting better.

I'm retired. Am I too old to start singing lessons?

Not at all. We regularly teach adults and retirees picking up singing for the first time, or returning to it after decades away. There's no upper age limit, and many of our older students say it's one of the most rewarding things they've taken up.

Which singing styles do you teach?

All of them. Our Edinburgh vocal coaches work across musical theatre, pop, rock, jazz, classical and contemporary folk, and build every lesson around the artists and songs you love.

Can I have online singing lessons?

Yes. We teach live 1-2-1 online singing lessons over Zoom, Google Meet or FaceTime, with exactly the same qualified vocal coaches as our in-person lessons in Morningside.

How much do singing lessons in Edinburgh cost?

Singing lessons are £36 for a half hour and £59 for a full hour, the same rate as every instrument we teach, pay-as-you-go with no contracts or block booking. Many adult beginners start with a weekly half-hour lesson.

Do I need to read music to take singing lessons?

No. Plenty of our singers can't read a note and never need to. We teach by ear and build up notation only if it's actually useful to you, for example when working towards a graded singing exam.

What's the difference between a singing teacher and a vocal coach?

We do both in every lesson: healthy vocal technique, breath support and range on the vocal-coaching side, and repertoire, style and performance on the singing-teacher side. Each lesson is 1-2-1 and built around your voice and goals.

I get nervous singing in front of people. Can you still help?

Absolutely, and you're in good company. Lessons are private, 1-2-1 and completely judgement-free, and we build confidence gradually. Recording and performance opportunities are there when you want them, never before.
