We teach thousands of children and young people every year, and their welfare comes before everything else. Safeguarding isn’t a box we tick: it’s built into how we recruit teachers, how our school is run, and how every lesson takes place.
Our commitment to you
PVG Scheme registered tutors
Every teacher holds a live PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) certificate through Disclosure Scotland before they teach a single lesson with us.
First Aider on site
A trained first aider is on site throughout opening hours, ready to respond if a pupil, parent or member of staff ever needs help.
CCTV throughout the school
Every room and communal area across the music school is covered by the very highest quality CCTV, for everyone's safety and peace of mind.
A supervised, professional music school
Lessons take place in our purpose-built Morningside music school, never in a private home, with staff on site throughout opening hours.
Parents and guardians welcome
Parents and guardians of pupils under 18 are always welcome to remain on site, sit in on a lesson, or observe from reception.
Safer recruitment
Every teacher who joins us is interviewed, reference-checked and PVG-registered before being introduced to a single pupil.
A concern is always taken seriously
Any safeguarding concern, from a parent, pupil or member of the public, is treated with the utmost seriousness and acted on promptly.
How a concern is handled
We follow the City of Edinburgh Council’s child protection procedures. If a concern is raised with us, by a parent, a pupil, a member of staff or anyone else, our safeguarding lead reviews it immediately and, where the concern meets the threshold for a statutory referral, reports it to the council’s child protection service without delay. You do not need to be certain that a child has been harmed, or is at immediate risk of harm, before raising it with us: it is always better to raise a concern and be wrong than to say nothing.
Every teaching room and communal area in the school is covered by high-quality CCTV that also records sound, and footage can be shared with the council or Police Scotland where a genuine child protection concern requires it.
If a child is in immediate danger, always call 999 first, then let us know once the child is safe.
