Morningside School of Music is Edinburgh’s longest-established independent music school. For over 27 years we’ve done one thing, and done it properly: private, one-to-one lessons with teachers who are genuinely good at teaching.
Where we began
The school opened its doors in Morningside with a simple idea — that anyone, at any age, should be able to learn an instrument from a proper teacher, close to home, without contracts or pressure. Comiston Road has been our home ever since.
Where we are now
More than 45 teachers, 19 instruments, and thousands of students taught — from four-year-olds at their first lesson to retirees fulfilling a lifelong ambition. Some of the children who started with us now bring their own children through the same door.

In over 27 years, every single student we’ve entered for a graded music exam has passed — a 100% pass rate, and not one failure in the school’s history.
Lessons built around people, not terms
Every lesson is private and one-to-one, pay-as-you-go with no contracts, taught 8am–10pm, seven days a week, all year round — at our Morningside studio or online.

Our 45+ teachers are fully qualified and PVG-registered, and every one of them is here because they’re as good with people as they are with their instrument.
