How Much Do Music Lessons Cost in Edinburgh?
Straight answer, no digging required — here’s exactly what lessons cost at Morningside School of Music, with nothing hidden behind a contract or a block booking.
The most popular choice, especially for children and beginners. Long enough to make real progress, short enough to hold full concentration.
Ideal for adults, exam preparation and more advanced players who want to go deeper each week. Works out cheaper per minute than the half hour.
Every lesson is private and 1-2-1 with a fully qualified, PVG-registered music teacher — in person at our Morningside studio or online, seven days a week, 8am–10pm.
What’s included — and what isn’t
A lot of music schools quote a low headline rate, then add a term commitment, a registration fee or a block you have to buy in advance. We keep it simple.
Pay as you go
You pay for each lesson as you take it. No block bookings to buy up front and no lessons to lose if life gets in the way.
No contracts, no tie-ins
No 10-month commitment, no term-length agreement and no auto-billing. Learn for as long as you're enjoying it and stop whenever you need to.
No registration or hidden fees
The lesson price is the price. There's no joining fee, no annual charge and no extra cost for online lessons — the rate is identical in person or over video.
The same rate for every instrument
Piano, guitar, singing, drums, violin, saxophone — whatever you learn, and whichever of our teachers you work with, the price is exactly the same.

Music lesson costs — your questions
- How much do music lessons cost in Edinburgh?
- At Morningside School of Music, lessons are £36 for a half hour and £59 for a full hour. That's the same price for every instrument, for children and adults alike, whether you learn in person at our Morningside studio or online. Lessons are pay-as-you-go, with no contracts, no block bookings and no registration fee.
- Do lessons cost more for some instruments than others?
- No. Piano, guitar, singing, drums, violin, saxophone and every other instrument we teach are all charged at the same rate — £36 per half hour or £59 per full hour — no matter how experienced the teacher.
- Is it cheaper to book a block of lessons in advance?
- We don't ask you to. Every lesson is pay-as-you-go at the same fair rate, so you're never out of pocket for lessons you can't attend and never locked into a term or a contract. You simply book the lessons that suit you.
- Does an online lesson cost less than an in-person one?
- No — online and in-person lessons are the same price, £36 per half hour or £59 per full hour. Many students mix the two week to week, learning in person at our Morningside studio when they can and online when it's more convenient.
- Are music exams included in the price?
- Lessons are charged at the standard £36 / £59 rate whether or not you're working towards an exam. Graded exams themselves are optional and carry the exam board's own separate entry fee — but many of our students learn purely for enjoyment and never sit one.
- How do I pay for lessons?
- You pay per lesson as you go. Once you register your interest we'll match you with the right teacher and explain everything — there's no upfront cost to get started.
