Edinburgh Ukulele Lessons
Our Edinburgh ukulele lessons have become far more popular over the past decade, thanks in part to high-profile musicians like Ed Sheeran. Playing the ukulele and singing along is excellent fun, no matter your age.

The ukulele's history stretches back to 1800s Hawaii, where it was introduced by Portuguese sailors. Today it remains a small, approachable relative of the guitar with fewer strings and different tunings. We teach from age four upwards, all on a 1-2-1 basis, though tuition can also be arranged for small groups of two to five students if friends or family want to learn together.
For a structured approach, we offer the Rockschool RSL graded syllabus, working towards an official qualification at each stage, or lessons can simply be shaped around your own musical interests with no exams at all.
The ukulele's soft nylon strings and light body make it one of the gentlest instruments on the hands. That's exactly why it has become such a popular choice among our adult and retired students, many of whom find guitar physically demanding but pick up simple ukulele chords within their first few lessons.

“Sam has been teaching ukulele and guitar to two of my children (8 and 10 years old). He was able to bond with them easily and they both love him. Sam is very enthusiastic and his passion for music and teaching comes across. He is very organised and reliable. He made lessons fun for both of my children and they progressed nicely. He has also been incredibly good with communications with us as parents, highlighting what we could do to help and informing us on the children's progress. Highly recommended.”
Ukulele lesson FAQs
What ukulele do you recommend?
Our teachers recommend the Winzz Concert Ukulele pack as a great, reasonably priced instrument to begin with for both children and adults.
Do you teach adults as well as children?
Yes: thanks to our late opening hours and weekend appointments, we actually teach more adults than children, including parent-and-child lessons together as a group.
Is ukulele a realistic instrument to start in retirement?
Very much so. It's one of the gentlest instruments on the hands and one of the quickest to show early progress, which is exactly why so many of our retired students choose it.
