Portobello & Joppa, Edinburgh

Music Lessons in Portobello

Portobello has become one of Edinburgh's most vibrant family neighbourhoods — the promenade and the beach, a genuinely creative, musical community, and a wave of young families settling along the coast at Portobello and Joppa. It's a part of the city with real appetite for learning an instrument, and one we're delighted to teach.

Every lesson is private, 1-2-1 and taught by a fully qualified, PVG-registered teacher, whether it's a child beginning piano or violin, a teenager preparing for graded exams, or an adult taking up guitar or singing. As Portobello sits over on the east coast, a fair way from our Morningside studio, many families here learn live online — the same teacher and lesson, no cross-town drive — while others enjoy making the trip in.

Our school is at 138 Comiston Road in Morningside, across the city from Portobello and Joppa. Many coastal families choose online lessons to skip the journey — the teacher and the price are exactly the same — but you're always welcome at the studio.

Portobello music lessons: your questions

Do Portobello families come to you, or can lessons be online?
Both. Many Portobello and Joppa families learn online — live, 1-2-1 video lessons with the same qualified teachers — which avoids the trip across the city. You're also very welcome at our Morningside studio at 138 Comiston Road.
Do you teach children and adults from Portobello?
Yes. Around 58% of our students are adults, and we teach children from age four, so Portobello and Joppa families, teenagers preparing for exams and adult beginners are all equally welcome.
How much do music lessons cost?
£36 for a half hour and £59 for a full hour, the same rate for every instrument and identical online or in person, pay-as-you-go with no contracts or block booking.
Which instruments can I learn?
All 19 we teach, from piano, guitar, singing and drums to violin, saxophone and more, from complete beginner to advanced, for exams or purely for enjoyment.
